Succession is not always a gradual or predictable process – the issue could be forced by sudden illness or a new opportunity that you can’t pass up. Planning ahead, therefore, is essential. The best time to plan is when you don’t need a plan at all – before a crisis situation occurs.

SBLR Gives Back to the Community
In an effort to give back to the community, SBLR elects an internal Charitable Committee each year to raise much-needed funds for some very worthy charitable organizations.
Our designated charity for 2012 is Camp Erin Toronto. Partnering with Mount Sinai Hospital, Camp Erin Toronto is a bereavement camp designed for children ages 6 through 17 who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, friend or other loved one. Camp Erin provides a free, weekend-long experience filled with traditional fun camp activities, combined with grief education and emotional support.
Our goal is to raise $12,000 through a variety of team and client events in 2012, such as a silent auction, poker tournament, bake sales, casual Fridays, 50/50 draws, etc. SBLR will supplement the funds we raise with an additional $5,000 donation.
In previous years, we have also supported such worthy organizations as:
-
Special Olympics of Ontario - an organization that changes lives by encouraging and empowering people with intellectual disabilities through Olympic-type sports.
-
Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada (TSFC) – an organization that assists individuals affected by Tourette Syndrome and its associated disorders through programs of education, advocacy, self-help and the promotion of research.
-
Autism Speaks – the leading non-profit organization committed to uncovering the cause(s), prevention, treatments and cure for autism.
-
The Speech & Stuttering Institute – an organization that provides clinical services, therapy, educational programs and research into speech impediments and disorders.
-
Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC) – an organization that seeks to improve the quality of life for Canadians who are affected by diseases of the digestive system.
-
Alzheimer Society of Canada – the leading not-for-profit health organization working nationwide to improve the quality of life for Canadians affected by the disease.
-
Camp Trillium – an organization that provides recreational activities for children with cancer and their families.
In total, we have raised over $110,000 in the past seven years for these very worthy charities – a huge accomplishment that would not have been possible without the generous contributions of our team, our clients and our friends.
