Tax Manager / Senior Tax Specialist

Our clients are enthusiastic about our vision and our growth has exceeded our expectations.  That’s why we are looking for a Tax Manager/Senior Tax Specialist to join our team – one who shares in our vision!

As a member of our Tax Team, reporting to our Director of Tax, you will advise our clients on tax planning, deferral strategies, financing structures, employee compensation, owner-managed remuneration and a range of other complex tax issues.  You will have the opportunity to resolve client issues directly with the client, CRA and other government or regulatory agencies. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Tax planning - assist in the development and implementation of tax planning strategies for various private-company clients (owner-managed businesses)

  • Tax advice - identify existing tax issues and planning opportunities for individual clients and businesses, and work with our Director of Tax to develop client-focused solutions and strategies

  • Research - participate in a broad range of tax-related work requiring research, analysis, assessment, and quantification

  • Reorganizations - work on corporate reorganizations and estate planning

  • Corporate tax compliance and provisions

  • Work directly with CRA on tax audits and appeals

  • Prepare, plan, research and implement memos that will be reviewed by business owner clients

  • Review work of junior/intermediate staff in tax group, as required.

The skills and qualifications required for this position include:

  • Minimum of one year experience as a tax manager with another CA firm, or several years as a tax senior with another CA firm, performing the above-noted responsibilities

  • CA or CGA designation

  • Successful completion of the MTax or CICA In-Depth Tax courses

  • Experience working with owner-managed, private businesses

  • Experience working on reorganizations, tax planning, and writing memos

  • Must be ready to roll up your sleeves and be a 'working manager'

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with a demonstrated leadership ability

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, and work well individually or as part of a team
